"I was a twenty-five-year old man when I became a vampire, and the year was seventeen ninety-one." - Louis De Point du Lac
This here is the last picture of Louis, before he is turned.
Louis has always been one of my all time favorite characters. For a very long time I've wanted to paint him, but I hesitated to do so, feeling that my skills level was just not up to the task. But now there is all this Vampire craze and I felt Rice's Children of the night just weren't getting enough attention. And so I resolved to get to work on some Interview With The Vampire fan art. I meant to do this more "painterly" but instead I found myself pushing for more realism. I must admit, I'm a little surprised with myself. Anyways, now that I've got Louis face down I think you'll definitely be seeing more of him! I want to do a picture of the very first scene in IWTV with Louis and Daniel doing the interview. I'm excited just thinking about it.
i literally smiled and blushed when i saw this! ; A ;
he is absolutely beautiful and almost as exactly as i've pictured him in my head!(except the hair, cuz i usually don't dig guys with ponytails T_T) ; A ; i'm almost jealous that you could paint him so perfectly, really!
you could see his sad, self-inflicting nature through those green eyes.
This is absolute brilliance. I especially enjoy the very organic feel that you've brought to this portrait by making it more like an actual oil painting. It's much warmer than the usual digital art people submit to this site. You could really picture this hanging on the wall of Lestat, Louis, and Claudia's home. The skin isn't quite as pale as it might be in reality, were vampires real... but that's actually a good thing.. I mean, it sort of looks like he's got candle light reflecting off his face. The shadowing you've done on his cheeks and around his eyes is very impressive. Also, his expression is just right. It's obvious he's deep in contemplation and mildly ticked that he's having to sit around while having his portrait done up. The lips and the overall shape of the face ring very true to my mental image of him. My one complaint is that the hair could have been a bit darker... but the way you've painted it, I don't know if the details would have showed up as well with a darker shade of hair. The attention you've paid to his clothing is also exceptional. They aren't colorful or even as fancy as something his cohorts would wear, but it's very very Louis. What I want to know is how on earth you managed to get that neck cloth so accurately painted without driving yourself insane? I never know how far down on the neck to position those or how to get the knot exactly right. Anyway, I'm adding this to my favorites. One of the best fan arts I've seen. Man, I wish you'd do one of Claudia, Lestat, and Louis in the same painting.... sort of a family portrait? Or one of Armand and Marius...You're very talented.
Awe Thank YOU! Is it just ponytails or long hair in general? I love guys with long hair. Mostly because not any kind of guy could pull it off. But I believe Louis had his hair shorter when he met Daniel. So on a future pic you can expect shorter hair.

First of all let me give you a big THANK YOU. These kind of reviews motivate me to remain active in DA. You're right about the warmer lighting. I was aiming for the color scheme of Louis time. Like I mentioned on the artist comments this is a Louis before he was turned. Probably sometime before his brother passed away. I love that you could see the emotion I was trying to portray of Louis. It was difficult to get his eyes right. About the hair, I must admit that one of the things that always annoyed me was people who have painted him before (and they are very few) always give him Brad Pitts brown hair. "Louis hair is black!" I'd say. But for this type of painting I just couldn't make it darker. I promise for the next one though, He'll definitely have that black hair. Regarding the collar, I totally know what you mean! And the solution to that is simply observation. Rent some movies on the time period besides IWTV, google 18th century fashion. You should notice it pretty much covers the whole neck down to the collarbone. As far as the rest of the vamps, I hope to do a family scene one day. For now I only have a Daniel and Louis scene planed. Armand is also definitely in my to do list. Again, thanks for the comment.
